This site is based on the work started at the #govhack festival held in Canberra in November 2009. The first visualisation presented here is based on the Australian Federal Government's Agency Functions released by the National Archives of Australia as part of the federal government data catalogue.
Our goal is to build a hub for people working on visualising the structure of governments, their functions and available datasets. In order to do that we are making the underlying data available via Open APIs for everyone to use. We are also working to create a shared workspace where people can contribute Open Source code created to visualise this data and the images or web applications that are the outcome.
As our first step we have created a simple Open Source interactive diagram of the Functions performed by the Australian Federal Government using the Raphael Javascript Library.
Our next step is to populate the panels on the right with links to the relevant Agency websites and direct links to the datasets they have available. We want you to add to, or suggest links directly using web forms to help us grow an accurate and visually rich map of where our Government's #OpenData work is up to and where significant advances can be made.
We hope you enjoy visualising your government and please remember this is a work in progress. Let us know if you find any bugs and feel free to send us any suggestions or contributions.
